When to use it
When your landlord has failed to maintain the unit, building, or comply with health and safety standards despite being notified.
What happens next
The LTB can order repairs, rent abatement, and a fine against the landlord. Filing fee: $48 (online) paid to the LTB.
Note: The LTB charges a separate government filing fee ($48 online / $53 by mail), paid directly to the LTB when you file.
Common mistakes
- ✗Not giving the landlord written notice of the issue first
- ✗No documentation — photos, written requests, inspection reports strengthen your case
